Identification and classification of endocrine disrupting (ED) chemicals should adopt a weight of evidence approach, suggest UK scientists. All evidence must be considered and case-by-case decisions made, said Professor Andreas Kortenkamp of the UK Brunei University at a European Commission conference on endocrine disrupters in June in Brussels, Belgium. ED properties will become key criteria for blocking EU registrations of agrochemicals and biocides, and the conference addressed the work being done to establish criteria and methods for assessing such properties.
