Kumiai/Certis USA roll out biofungicide

Kumiai Chemical and Mitsui &-Co's subsidiary, Certis USA (Columbia, Maryland), are introducing biofungicides based on the bacterium, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain D747, in several countries under a global licensing deal. The first product, Double Nickel 55, will be introduced in the US in April for the control of powdery mildew, Botrytis spp and bacterial diseases of fruiting and leafy vegetables, grapevines, strawberries and tree fruit. The product is more potent than other bacterium-based biofungicides and can be used at lower application rates, the companies point out. They received US approval for three B amyloliquefaciens strain D747-based biofungicides in December 2011 (Agrow No 629, p 26).
