German regulators seek harmonised ED criteria

German regulators have appealed for harmonisation in the criteria for identifying endocrine disrupters (EDs). The German federal institute of risk assessment, the BfR, says that in assessing substances with endocrine-disrupting properties, the principle of "one substance - one assessment" should be applied. It points to the situation in the EU where specific regulations have been passed on endocrine disrupters in different legal areas. It includes agrochemicals where the European Commission is obliged under the EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009) to propose specific criteria for EDs by the end of 2013.
