EFSA dismisses Italian ban on MON810

Italy has not provided the scientific evidence required to support its ban on the cultivation of Monsanto's genetically modified YieldGard Corn Borer (MOIN810) maize, concludes the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Italy asked the European Commission in March for permission to impose the ban, and its evidence was passed to the EFSA in May. Italy went ahead with issuing a decree in July banning the planting of M0N810 for up to 18 months (Agrow No 669, p 12).
