Investing in Brazilian GMOs returns triple

The adoption of genetically modified crops in Brazil returns up to three and half times the investment, according to a grower association-commissioned study. For every dollar spent on GM seed in 2011, Brazilian farmers enjoyed returns of $1.59 for soybeans, $2.61 for maize and $3.59 for cotton, the Celeres research group has found. Celeres chief executive officer Anderson Galvao says the study is the first to calculate increases in operating margins for farms from adoption of the technology, and so can "translate the economic advantages to a reality that is much closer to the Brazilian farmer".
