Fitch Reduces Alberta's Credit Rating, Citing concerns about Province's Heavy Borrowing

The American-based Fitch rating agency announced in late-June 2020 it had reduced Alberta credit rate to AA- from AA, citing concerns about the much higher borrowing done by the province to deal with the fallout from the COVID-19 epidemic. Premier Jason Kenney said this year's budget deficit is expected to balloon to about $20.0 billion from its previous estimate of $7.0 billion.
