Around the end of January, at least two reporting agencies in Canada, Canadian Press and Globe News, hoped to scare up a reaction from someone with some "earth-shattering" news. Acting under the principle that they have to print something on a daily basis, one of them dreamed up the following headline: "Canadian Drillers Moving Rigs South to Chase Better Prospects in Texas Oilfields." Not to be outdone, the Calgary Herald, which should know better, followed a few days later with the same piece, under an amended headline. What they chose to build a story around wasn't news, and it was barely information.
