Major concern of rice-wheat cropping system is the management of rice straw. Most of the farmers adopt the easiest way to manage the rice residue by burning it in the field. PAU has recommended many machines for the successful management of paddy straw. Out of these PAU-Happy Seeder is a machine, which enables the farmers to sow wheat directly into the standing stubbles of paddy.Charanjit Singh, an innovative farmer from village Muakrbpur district Ropar is doing farming (Rice-Wheat) in his 45 acres of land. He is in connection with PAU from last 10 years and has adopted many techniques developed by PAU over time. In past, like other farmers, Charanjit Singh also used to burn his left over rice residue. With burning of his crop residue, he generally felt disappointed while thinking about environmental pollution.
