Punjab Agricultural University in the service of the farmers

摘要

Punjab has achieved a remarkable success in agricultural production especially in the area of food grains. The state is playing a pivotal role in the national food security by contributing 33-75 per cent wheat and 22-60 per cent rice for the last 4-5decades. Such a marvellous contribution from a tiny state, holding only 1.53 per cent area at national level could only be possible by the development of high yielding fertilizer responsive dwarf varieties along with matching production and protection technologies, creation ofirrigation facilities, use of agrochemicals, mechanization, favourable government policies and moreover the hard working and receptive attitude of Punjab farmers.
