Management strategies for Pink Bollworm in cotton

Cotton is the most important cash crop producing natural fibre, which has been under commercial cultivation for domestic consumption and export needs. Before introduction of Bt cotton in Punjab, bollworms (American, spotted and pink bollworms) and sucking pests (jassid, whitefly and aphid) were serious on cotton. However, after introduction of Bt cotton, there was drastic reduction in bollworms' incidence but increased incidence of sucking pests. Since last 2-3 years, pink bollworm incidence was recorded on Bt cotton hybrids in central and Southern India. During 2017, heavy infestation of this pest was recorded in states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana.
