Adoption of improved wheat varieties: Need of the hour

New wheat varieties are being regularly developed and released by the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and in sync with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Punjab, these are being aggressively pursued for adoption by the farmers. However, in spite ofbest efforts, the rate of adoption of some recent releases has been slower than expected. Consequently, varieties released about 10 years back are still occupying substantial acreage at farmers' fields.
