Influence of Integrated Nutrient Management on Yield, Nutrient Content, Quality and Economics of Cultivation of Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus L.)

Sweet flag (Acorns calamus L.) is an important medicinal plant. The economic part is the rhizome. Investigations were carried out to study the influence of integrated nutrient management on Yield, Quality and Economics of cultivation of Sweet flag. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. Three levels of nitrogen at 100, 75 and 50 kg ha~(-1) in the form of Urea and three levels of phosphorus in the form of single super phosphate at 50, 37.5 and 25 kg ha~(-1) along with Azospirillum, Phosphobacteria and Vermicompost were tried. The study revealed that inoculation of Azospirillum 2 kg ha~(-1) along with 75 kg ha~(-1) N + 50 kg ha~(-1) P improved the rhizome diameter, rhizome length, fresh and dry weightof rhizome, essential oil content and alkaloid content. And also the same treatment registered the highest net return and cost benefit ratio. Nitrogen and potassium content in rhizome were maximum by application of 100 kg ha~(-1) N + 50 kg ha~(-1) alongwith Azospirillum 2 kg ha~(-1) whereas phosphorus content was maximum at application of 100 kg ha~(-1) N + 50 kg ha~(-1) P along with Phosphobacteria.
