Studies on yield gap and constraints analysis in soybean and mustard were carried out considering three years, data from 2000-01 to 2002-03(Kharif and Rabi seasons) in northern part of Madhya Pradesh. The results revealed that the yield gap-I (research gap) was found to be very substantial, both in soybean (31.95%) and mustard (27.60%) mainly due to environmental differences, non-transferable technology etc. The yield gap-II (Extension gap) in soybean (41.23) and mustard (37.10) was also found to be considerable, may be due to agro-biological and socio-economic constraints in production. The yield gap-III (attainable potential gap) has clearly showed that the farmers have harvested only about 65 and 68 per cent of attainable potential yield of soybean and mustard respectively. Therefore, in order to reduce the yield gap arising out of various agro-biological and socio-economic constraints identified and documented, strengthening of institutional net work for provision of inputs and technical know-how is suggested.
