Figure 2 shows a typical schematic system layout for this type of surface applied galvanic zinc anode cathodic protection system.From the drawing we can identify the four critical independent elements which are required for the cathodic protection to work:Cathode - the reinforcement steel it is intended to protect.Anode - the zinc foil which is sacrificing itself (dissolving)to provide the protection.Electrolyte - concrete pore water and the ionic conductive gel.
