Soybean area static in Argentina

There is likely to be no significant change in the soybean area in Argentina this season compared with 2009/10, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. It emphasises that the October figures are "premature in determining the eventual coverage". Preliminary evaluations point to a 2% increase on last year's 18.3 million ha. Planting is under way in five of 24 provinces, including two of the three dominant soybean producers. The survey was carried out in mid-October. The area for major crops fell last year, despite a slight recovery after initial plantings (Agrow No 581, p 17).
