Standard pipe shipments, incomparison with the same period last year,have the largest deficit position of any of theseven pipe and tube sectors in this Report.Granted construction spending growth isslower this year, but a quick review of thechart at the bottom of this page suggests thatstandard pipe shipments aren’t keeping pacewith construction spending indicators. At thesame time, much of the deficit has accrued toimport suppliers. So, what are thepossibilities? Destocking is certainly one ofthe possibilities, but our research so far can’tconfirm this.
