The Canadian government has made the decision to move forward with the TransMountain pipeline. The decision drew criticism from liberals for moving in the wrong directionwith respect to climate change while the conservatives noted that there was still no schedule forthe project and that much was left to be done that could derail the pipeline. The $5.5 billionexpansion would nearly triple the amount of Canadian crude oil the pipeline transports each dayfrom Edmonton, Alberta, to the port in Burnaby, B.C., to be exported. The project has dividedCanadians for years and the decision comes at a difficult time for Prime Minister Trudeau whohas seen support wane over a variety of issues.
