Brazil soy farmers to file Monsanto complaint

Brazilian soybean farmer groups are to file an official complaint against Monsanto for allegedly restricting access to conventional soybean seed by offering almost exclusively genetically modified varieties, official news agency Agencia Brasil reports. The seed associations, Aprosoja and Abrange, are studying options to file their complaint at the Ministry of Justice's economic defence administrative counsel, the Cade. It is a government competition regulator that monitors and investigates abuses of economic power. The complaint would be that Monsanto offers a mix of 85% GM and 15% conventional soybean lines for sale, resulting in too few conventional seed supplies to meet demand, Aprosoja says.
