Some 5,300 tonnes of empty pesticide packages were collected in France in 2009 by the industry, accounting for 66% of the total packs sold in the year, says the French agrochemical industry association, the UIPP. That reflected an increase of 7.1% over 2008 (Agrow No 575, p 18). The collection is part of the UIPP's recycling initiative, Adivalor. The association expects a collection rate of 70% in 2010. The packaging that is recovered is used as an alternative fuel or recycled for certain identified applications, it says.
