Composites used for refinery repair…

CONSIDERABLESAVINGS were made at one of Europe's largest refineries in September when extensive corrosion to a salt-water header and connecting lines was successfully and permanently treated, whilst the plant remained on-line, using advanced composites technology. The repair incorporated a 90 deg elbow, flanges, valve bodies, and a Furmanite clamp. The clamp was already in-situ on one section of the line, but external corrosion had caused wall thinning. Two 3-in branches were on the verge of through-wall damage, and two valve bodies, plus extraneous piping, required attention to contain the damage.
