UK-BASED South East Galvanizers' experience and capacity proved crucial when the company was recently asked to hot-dip galvanize two derricks destined for use on the world's largest deepwater well-drilling jack-up rigs. Great Yarmouth-based rig builder MIL required the galvanizing services of Wedge Group's South East Galvanizers, for work on derricks which will be used for well-drilling projects in the North Sea. Galvanized for long-lasting protection against the harsh N Sea environment, the derricks will be incorporated on the Maersk Inspirer and Maersk Innovator jack-up rigs, which are currently being assembled in Korea. A total of 500 tonnes of steel was galvanized before being finished with an epoxy paint coat.
