Aberdeen-based integrity,inspection and corrosion specialists,iicorr Ltd,has saved one of its clients ￡700,000 after designing a revolutionary subsea inspection system.The Trac-scan Crawler System was custom designed for one of iicorr's clients to inspect a horizontal 14" riser section for corrosion.Due to a large hole in the subsea pipeline,the line could not be pressurised and,therefore,traditional smart pig and tethered systems could not be used.This meant the technology at the time was unable to penetrate the distance it needed to inspect.The crawler system was created to inspect the out-of-reach section with the use of an ultrasonic technique-by proving it was in good condition and not in need of replacement,it meant a saving of ￡700,000.
