STUDIES ON MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF POLLEN GRAINS OF WILD RICE-ORYZA MEYERIANA BAILL

摘要

The pollen grains of Oryza meyeriana Baill were studied for their morphological and physiological characters. All the morphological features of the pollen grains of this wild rice species were found to be similar vrtti that of Oryza sativa except fortheir size. The pollen fertility of Oryza meyeriana was found to be 90.65% as compared to 96.11 % in Oryza sativa. Pollen germination was tested on sucrose media with different concentrations, and was found to be quite low, highest being 32.26% in 20% sucrose solution.
