Such was the opening sentence of MIT Technology Review's article in July covering Electric Vehicles. The stock market knows it as well. In April, Tesla was valued at USD 50 billion with sales of USD 7 billion in 2016 (76,000 cars) and a price-earnings ratio (P/E! of 126. By comparison Ford's and GM's market capitalisation was USD 44 billion and GM USD 50 billion, respectively with P/E's between 5 and 7. Prestige electric cars are the new iPhone, it seems, and back integration into batteries is a critical success factor.
