Centre likely to ban plastic across country by 2022

The Central government might introduce a pan-India ban on plastic by 2022,officials from the Union Ministry of Environment,Forest and Climate Change(MoEFCC)have said.In a meeting with State government officials this week.Anil Kumar Jain,Additional Secretary,MoEFCC,expressed interest in replicating Maharashtra's model across the country by 2022,senior officials said.States such as Maharashtra,Punjab,Rajasthan,Gujarat,Kerala,Madhya Pradesh have banned plastic items.However, the absence of a uniform policy has put in doubt the implementation of the ban in other States.Anil Kumar Diggikar,Environment Secretary,said,”He [Mr.Jain] conveyed to us the Central government's keen interest in replicating Maharashtra's model for a nationwide policy by 2022.Our policy's key aspects are forward looking as opposed to policies in developed States like Gujarat.
