Start-up of commercial PLA plant in Thailand

Total Corbion PLA(Gorinchem/The Netherlands;www.total-corbion.com),a 50:50 JV between Total(Paris/France;www total.com)and Corbion(Amsterdam/The Netherlands;www.corbion.com),has started up a 75,000 t/y PLA plant in Rayong/Thailand,which it said is the second-largest PLA plant in the world.As a result of the new capacity,global production of PLA will rise by nearly 50% to 240,000 t/y,the company noted.The facility will produce "Luminy" PLA resins ranging from standard-grade to high-heat PLA and PDLA,for markets such as packaging,consumer goods,3D printing and automotive.
