November 2017: Price upswing with standard plastics runs out of steam / PA 6.6 moves upwards

In November, US polymers markets continued to stabilise after the hurricane season. PE and PS stagnated, while PP rose only minimally. PVC even fell back a little. Among the engineering plastics, the PAs moved up after a long period of resistance, while ABS and PC remained stable, reports PIE's US partner RTi (Fort Worth, Texas; www.resinpros.com). This is unlikely to continue for long, since benzene has shot up by about 25% in the last few weeks, and so have all downstream products like styrene, phenol and caprolactam.
