Much of THE world's electricity is produced by fossil-fired power plants. In steam plants, the energy transfer from fuel to electricity requires an intermediate medium, which is, of course, water. Because boilers operate at high temperatures and pressures, water and steam chemistry must be carefully controlled, otherwise serious corrosion of the boiler commponents would result. Virtually all boiler-water treatment systems and chemicals are desianed to prevent corrosion. The following article discusses a common water treatment programme for drum-type boilers, and provides a computer program (written in BASIC) WHICH simptries boiler-water treatment calculations.
