A field experiment was conducted during 2008-09 to study the effect of zinc enriched compost on transformation and availability of zinc in sandy loam soil under wet land condition. The ZnSO4 was enriched with organics i.e., sugarcane pressmud compost and sugarcane pressmud compost witii sewage sludge (3:1) @ 0, 50, 75 and 100% or recommended zinc for rice in the state. The results proved that most of the applied zinc existed as Am Fe-Zn and the incorporation of Zn enriched compost increased the different Zn fractions appreciably as against the ZnSO4 application. The relative distribution of various Zn fractions were in the order, Am Fe-Zn > Mn Ox-Zn > Om-Zn > Ws+Ex-Zn irrespective of zinc levels as enriched compost. The zinc fractions viz., Ws+Ex-Zn, Om-Zn and Mn Ox-Zn shown a conspicuous increase, which are known to play a vital rote in zinc nutrition of rice. The relationship between Ws+Ex-Zn; Om-Zn; Mn Ox-Zn and DTPA-Zn visualized the existence of dynamic equilibrium among the different Zn fractions in wetland rice soils.
