make a $500 million equity investment in Tellurian’s proposed Driftwood LNG export facility,and final arrangements the developer was working on with other partners,boost the Louisiana project’s hopes of starting construction later this year,executives said April 3.The milestones,announced on the sidelines of the LNG2019 conference in Shanghai,China,amount to an endorsement of Tellurian’s decision two years ago to ditch the traditional 20-year takeor-pay offtake contract model used to finance US liquefaction projects.The move came at a time when contracting activity was virtually at a standstill,and even though it has picked up since,deal-making has been insufficient for most developers of the second wave of US export terminals to reach final investment decisions on the multi-billion dollar projects.Tellurian is still relying on long-term contracts to support a portion of Driftwood volumes that it will market on its own.
