EIA reports much larger than expected 114 Bcf weekly gas storage injection

STORAGE US natural gas in storage increased 114 Bcf to 1.867 Tcf for the week ended May 24, the US Energy Information Administration reported Thursday. The injection was much more than an S&P Global Platts’ survey of analysts calling for a 95 Bcf injection. It was completely outside the range of the analyst survey, which showed expectations ranging from 88 to 108 Bcf. It was more than the 95 Bcf build reported during the corresponding week in 2018 as well as the five- year average injection of 97 Bcf, according to EIA data. It was also the fourth triple-digit build of the year and the 11th consecutive bearish injection.
