Field evaluation of fungicides against powdery mildew (Erysiphe polygoni) of green gram

Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe polygoni is serious foliar diseases of green gram (Vigna radiata L. Wilezek). The disease has been observed to occur regularly in Gujarat state during warm and humid Kharif season. The disease generally appears from the early flowering to the pod maturity stage and its development depends upon the cultivars used, growing period and prevailing weather conditions. It causes defoliation. The disease appears in severe form in local cultivar and causes significant loss inquality as well as quantity of grains. Large yield losses have been reported from different parts of the country and abroad (Khosla et al, 1988 and Reddy etal., 1994). The information on field efficacy of different fungicides especially triazoles against this disease is insufficient. Therefore, present study was undertaken to find out the suitable chemicals whichwould be able to reduce the disease.
