Ever-growing global environmental concerns, as well as the uncertainty of our planet's petrochemical resources, has caused a rapid increase in the research and development of bio-based polymers in recent years. Manufacturers are looking to replace petroleum-based materials with polymers derived from naturally occurring feedstocks to satisfy the industrial need for processes and products that are compatible with the environment and that enhance sustainable development. The combination of this awareness of harmful industrial processes, environmental issues and depleting oil-based resources has encouraged companies to invest in R&D in order to develop materials from renewable sources. Epoxy resins are common pre-polymers used in a variety of industries, such as adhesives, coatings, insulations, and high performing composite materials.
