Nondestructive Verification of Gamma Irradiation Effectiveness for Securing Paper Originality

摘要

The aim of this research is to verify and validate the gamma irradiation technology as a new technique for security paper's authenticity. Different techniques such as Fourier transform infrared and electron spin resonance are used to verify the procedures and to distinguish between papers. The paper handsheets were irradiated at National Center for Radiation Research and Technology using a ~(60)Co gamma cell with five radiation doses, ranging from 3 to 15 kGy, at the dose rate of 0.817 Gy/s. The properties of paper handsheets were tested before and after irradiation. This study presents a new application of peaceful uses of atomic energy in authentication and avoidance of counterfeiting of security papers.
