A field experiment was laid out to evaluate the effect of different spacings on growth, flowering, fruiting, yield and quality of strawberry cv. Chandler during winter -spring season of 2005-2006. The treatments comprised of various spacings viz. 30 x 15 cm (Single row system, T-1), 30 x 30 cm (Single row system, T-2), 30 x 45 cm (Single row system, T-3), 30 x 60 cm (Single row system, T-4), 30 x 15 cm (Double row system, T-5), 30 x 30 cm (Double row system, T-6) and 30 x 30cm (Flat bed system, T-7). On the basis of results obtained in the present study, it was concluded that the spacing 30x 15 cm and 30x 30 cm with single row planting system was found to be the best with reference to plant growth vi plant height, spread of plants and number of leaves as well as yield attributes. It is also significantly influenced flowering, fruiting and fruit growth. However, the spacing of 30 x 15 cm and 30 cm x 30 cm reduced the content of total soluble solids of mature fruit.
