The objective of the research was to determine the effect of Kelpak SL, which is an Ecklonia maxima extract, and nitrogen fertilisation regime on Lolium perenne yields as well as on protein and chlorophyll contents. A field experiment was set up in late April 2009 at the experimental unit of the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities. It was a split-plot arrangement with three replicates. The following experimental factors were examined: Kelpak SL applied at a rate of 2 dm(3)/ha vs non-treated control (0 dm(3)/ha), three nitrogen application regime (50, 100, 150 kg N/ha vs non-fertilised control) and two Lolium perenne cultivars (Diament and Gagat). The results of this study demonstrated that both grass cultivars responded positively to Kelpak and nitrogen. Their yields, protein and chlorophyll contents significantly increased. Kelpak-treated Diament tended to produce higher yields with greater contents of the investigated chemicals when fertilised with 150 kg N/ha.
