摘要

Sector mass separators and a symmetric prismatic mass separator are described based on matrix for-malism. Optimum solutions were found to reach maximum resolution. It was shown that the parameters of the focusing system and magnet, as well as the phase area of the beam, are not independent but are related by equations that offer the opportunity of an optimization procedure. The possibility to develop an isobar separator is discussed. Expressions for the third-order operture aberrations are derived for transaxial lenses.
