The field experiment was undertaken to evaluate the nutrient optimization for sustainable productivity of hybrid maize (COHM 5) in Inceptisol. Nutrient sorption study was carried out to find the deficient nutrient of the experimental soil and to fix the optimum nutrient treatment. The sorption study revealed that the N, P, K, and Zn were deficient in the soil and it required as optimum nutrients of 100, 32, 24 and 2.4 mg Kg-1 of N, P, K and Zn for this soil. The optimum nutrient treatment (ONT) of NPK and Zn were fixed as 200:64:48 and 4.8 Kg ha~(-1) for field experiment. In each case of N, P and K there were three more levels, viz, a zero level, one below and another above the ONT level. The maximum plant height (159.1, 226.6 and 257.5 cm), highestdrymatter production 4471 and 11126 Kg ha~(-1) were registered with the application of 250:64:48:4.8 Kg of NPK and Zn ha~(-1) at 45 and 75 DAS, respectively. Also, it influenced the yield attributes viz, the longest cob (19.7 cm), maximum cob girth (15.3 cm), highest number of grain rows per cob (15.4), grains row~(-1) (37.8) and hundred grains weight (28.06 g). The highest grain and stover yield of 8.01 and 14.391 ha~(-1) were recorded for the application of 250:64:48:4.8 Kg of NPK and Zn ha~(-1) withthe best net income of Rs. 38,102 ha~(-1).
