In the United States, breast cancer is the most common nonskin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Approximately 255,180 new cases of breast cancer and 41,070 total deaths from breast cancer are expected in 2017. Breast cancer strikes women of all ages, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic strata, and geographic locales.The skeleton is the most common site of meta-static disease in advanced breast cancer. Approximately 30% to 85% of patients with metastatic breast cancer develop bone metastases, and 26% to 50% of patients with metastatic breast cancer have a bone lesion as the first site of metastasis.
