It is shown that Einstein's proof for L = mc2, where L is the energy of an electromagnetic wave, is inconsistent with Maxwell's electromagnetism. Since the electromagnetic energy-stress tensor alone is incompatible with the energy of massless particles, thejustification for photons as massless particles is beyond special relativity. Thus, his proof is incomplete, and becomes invalid when radiation energy L is changed to a general energy E. Experimentally, from π0 meson decay, it is verified that the photonic energy is equivalentto mass. Thus, the photons must include additionally a nonelectromagnetic energy. In fact, it is the energy of related gravitational wave component; and the electromagnetic energy alone is not equivalent to mass. There are three types of experiments that confirm E = mc2invalid. For instance, a piece of heated-up metal would reduce its weight. Moreover, a charged capacitor and/or a charged metal ball also reduce weight because of the charge-mass repulsive interaction.
