Vehicles have become more efficient and safer, roads more durable and safer, pumps faster and more convenient, and logistics more sophisticated. But, fundamentally, the fuel of choice has remained diesel for heavy duty transport and a mix of diesel and gasoline for light duty, underpinned by a dominance of crude oil as the primary energy source.
