The OCP pipeline,a us1.4bn,450,000 I barrels a day(b/d)project,stretching 500 km from Lago Agrio,in the Amazon's oilfields,to a Pacific port near Balao,began transporting oil in September.The start-up of the heavy-oil pipeline(Oleoducto de Crudes Pesados)has led to hopes that the region's untapped oilfields will finally be opened up,after seeing output stalled by the limited capacity of the 390,000 b/d state-owned trans-Ecuadorean(Sole),pipeline.
