The Covid War

Political leaders globally have been using a language of wartime dispatches to describe dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and addressing the deep economic recession it is causing. And a shared perception that China is “winning the Covid War” is colouring the latest cycle of confrontation between the world’s two largest economies, as Beijing’s increasingly assertive territorial claims test the strength of US alliances sapped by President Donald Trump’s preference for a transactional foreign policy over a values-led one.
