Abu Dhabi has announced major new reserves additions that could help underpin state-run Adnoc’s crude capacity drive to 5mn b/d by 2030, even as the emirate pushes its low-carbon-intensity credentials and sustainability goals. The emirate’s Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) has announced a 2bn bl boost in its estimated conventional oil reserves, taking its total to 107bn bl. The SPC also added 22bn bl of recoverable unconventional oil resources following a major onshore appraisal programme by Adnoc covering 25,000km~2 in Abu Dhabi. The new unconventional resource would be bigger than some of Abu Dhabi’s existing major oil fi elds, the SPC says, suggesting a production potential comparable with “the largest shale oil operations in North America”.
