Nigeria president backs away from petroleum bill

Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has refused to sign into law the landmark Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB) because of “constitutional and legal reasons”, a key political ally says. Buhari objected to provisions relating to the planned Nigerian Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NPRC) and on an expanded role for the Petroleum Equalisation Fund, used to reimburse independent product importers.
