Private equity backed oil and gas firms active in the UK’s offshore continue to strengthen their North Sea portfolios. This, combined with the recovery in oil prices this year, could pave the way for initial public offerings. Private equity companies — which typically look to exit their investments within five years — have funded a string of acquisitions in the UK’s mature and relatively high-cost offshore sector in the past four years. More traditional players, including the majors, have instead sought to divest non-core fields and projects.
