Image problem hampers digitisation drive

The oil and gas industry is looking to digitisation to sustain cost-cutting and improve resource recovery, but it faces an image problem as it seeks to attract a new generation of specialists with diferent skills to those it relied on previously. “In the past, we were looking for geologists and engineers. In the future, we have to prepare our industry for digitalisation,” Austrian integrated frm OMV’s chief executive, Rainer Seele, told the Opec Seminar in Vienna on 21 June. “We need IT experts, like all other industries. And if you would like to attract the people, we have to improve the image of our industry.”
