EPA mulls methane rule rollback:US

US environment agency the EPA’s administrator, Scott Pruitt, is moving closer to fulflling his commitment to unwind methane regulations. The White House on 27 April began reviewing an EPA proposal to reconsider oil and natural gas rules that oblige operators to control methane emissions from new facilities. The industry has bristled at these regulations, which force compa- nies to install low-emissions equipment and regularly search for methane leaks. Pruitt hints at his preferred approach in congressional testimony, saying legisla- tion could target volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are co-mingled with methane in gas.
