Kosmos eyes Tullow's London crown

US upstream independent Kosmos Energy is vying with its European peers for investor attention after becoming the largest oil company to list its shares on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) since crude prices started falling in 2014. Kosmos' secondary listing on the LSE's main market, launched on 21 August, gives the company an opportunity to benchmark its performance against competitors with a similar background in conventional exploration in frontier areas, such as UK independents Tullow Oil, Ophir Energy and Premier Oil. And it offers Kosmos a chance to widen its shareholder base beyond the US, where investor appetite is heavily skewed towards the onshore shale industry. "We selected the LSE for our secondary listing because of its strong liquidity, reputation for transparency and participants' knowledge of the role of frontier exploration and development in our industry," Kosmos chief executive Andrew Inglis says.
