There's no point building anything unless people talk about it and it's better to be talked about than not at all. Those are the rules, right? Quite simply controversy is good, you can't escape that so long as you're getting attention, be it positive or negative, then you're doing something right. So when a loud-mouthed hooligan started piping up on social media (big shout out to DICK TV for inspiration) recently in his EP3 Honda Civic Type R, slagging off everything we know and love about the VW scene, I thought, I'm going to do something to try and really confuse him. A couple of weeks later I bought a red Honda Civic Type R and hooned about in it for a few weeks like a child. It was mega, cost ￡1500 and had been on the receiving end of a brand-new, warrantied engine from Honda around the 66,000 mile mark. Quite how this 2.0-litre, K20a engine isn't in some sort of hooligan hall of fame is beyond me. It's a total screamer and only those people who have never driven one will belittle its addictive power delivery. Granted, nothing happens until 5000rpm but then all hell literally breaks loose like a switch. It lives for the redline and seemingly soaked up the abuse every time I got in it for well over a month, not even the oil light came on in that time, and they're well known for using a drop of the black stuff.
